ARTEMIS SZEKIR-RIGAS

Artist, Photographer & Creative Director

Gifted with a name that came steeped in history and mysticism, I naturally became interested in the space between memory and myth; ways of remembering - not just what has happened but what has always been within us.

I was named after the Greek Goddess Artemis.

My approach to creating is slow and intentional. I believe beauty lies in the details and the process - in the patience it takes to capture something real and right.

I’m interested in creating emotive, evocative work; images, still or moving, that make you feel. I love imperfections and raw human edges. Light leaks, expired film, all the small magical, unpredictable, happy accidents that make an image feel alive.

Analogue photography has my heart because in an increasingly digital world, it’s something that remains timeless and tangible; light and shadow imprinted on delicate celluloid, images you can hold in your hands.

I’m available for creative commissions, collector enquiries and gallery showings. For all enquiries, please get in touch via email.

Record sleeve cover for The Cure

In 2012 I was one of the winners of the Secret 7” competition to design a record sleeve cover for ‘Friday I’m in Love’ by The Cure.

The idea was simple: artists from all over the world would pick one of the songs listed to make an record sleeve cover for.

The pieces would then be displayed in a gallery, with a catch; no one would know what artwork was for which song. The artwork was then auctioned off, with proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

My entry was hand-picked (and later signed by) Richard Smith himself.

My concept was sweet and simple:

"‘Friday I’m in Love’ is a song about being in love; how despite everything else going on, everything is alright as long as you’re with your loved one.

With that in mind, I decided to focus on the feeling of being in love; of walking on air. Despite the gloomy, dark surroundings, nothing can quash the feeling of being in love.
