RED (ongoing series)

Dominique & the pomegranates. The first in the series.

For 5 years, I had a strict earthy colour palette I didn’t deviate from.

Everything I owned was green, brown or beige. It served me well for those 5 years. Those colours felt like the truest expression of myself. Until they didn’t.

As my 30th birthday began approaching, I suddenly became obsessed with the colour red. Bold, bright, tomato red.

I don’t know where the obsession came from, other than ‘from within’. It was my grandmother’s favourite colour. Maybe it came from her.

Rick & the tomatoes.

The obsession showed no signs of slowing down, so I started channelling it into photographing people I knew with different red objects against a red backdrop.

All the photographs are taken with the Mamiya RB67 on instax film. Each image is one of a kind and I restrict myself one pack of film (1o shots) per subject.

Rob & the pepper.

I don’t yet know where this is leading, or what it means. For now, I’m just enjoying all the red.
